Pukehina School was opened in 1914 on land belonging to Te Rangituakoha Takuira Mita, te Rangatira no Ngati Whakahemo.
Te Rangituakoha gifted the land to the Government to set up a kura.
A pou haki carved by Kaka Niao in 1946 stands proudly in the kura grounds in memory of Te Rangituakoha Takuira Mita & the local soldiers who died in World War 2.
